The Rich History of The Beacon Restaurant
Known in Volusia County as simply “The Beacon”, the restaurant lives up to its name as a guiding light in the New Smyrna Beach area for over 60 years. It is family owned and operated by the Kotsonis family. In 1968, John Kotsonis moved from Greece to York, Pennsylvania. John and his wife, Toula, came to New Symrna Beach in 1979 for vacation and loved it so much they decided to move down. Then, in 1980, John and Tom Pappas purchased the restaurant; John bought Tom out when he retired in 1998. With its family friendly environment and open armed welcome, customers are treated like long lost relatives. Some of the most popular signature dishes are the Beacon burger and the Jim Kelly Salad. The close proximity to the beach, makes it a prime location for residents and visitors alike. Due to the positive and enthusiastic online reviews, TripAdvisor awarded The Beacon with a 2014 Certificate of Excellence. It’s no surprise that this local favorite has been around for more than 6 decades. So, if you are ever in New Smyrna Beach, be sure stop in they are always looking for new family members.
